Deadline for applications: Friday 29 May 2026

Lighthouse Reports is an award-winning investigative newsroom working with some of the world’s most impactful outlets and creators to deliver deeply reported, public interest stories. We build teams around topics and innovate new approaches to accountability journalism focused on climate, technology, society and conflict.

We’ve worked with more than 200 outlets from around the world ranging from international broadcasters and national newspapers to metro newsrooms and independent creators and filmmakers. We’re a multinational team, working remotely but spending regular, scheduled time together as an organization.

In this role you will work with Lighthouse directors to set a clear strategy for the climate and environment team, maintain a pipeline of viable ideas, meet production targets, manage budgets and reporters, partnerships and projects. You will curate relevant topics and nurture a communal sense of where the landing space is for brilliant investigative ideas.

You will lead a diverse team of outstanding reporters and story editors, channeling Lighthouse’s strengths from data and digital investigations to financial forensics. You will build collaborative investigative coalitions, working across the world, on high impact stories that inform change. You will forge new partnerships; you will be both the editorial lead on some investigative coalitions and manage editors who report to you on other projects.

Your work could stretch from food systems to extractive industries, deforestation to agritech. You will have a broader conception of the editor’s role than processing pitches, editing copy and meeting deadlines.

You will need to be curious, ambitious, diplomatic and flexible.

  • A demonstrated commitment to climate and environment journalism.
  • 5+ years in a newsroom with at least two years of experience managing journalists and editing a variety of story formats.
  • Experience in collaborative journalism and investigative project management.
  • A track record of publishing stories or coverage across a range of news platforms and formats.
  • Commitment to bringing investigative reporting to creators, strategic audiences and nontraditional formats.
  • Acute understanding of a diversity of reporting methods.
  • The ability to strategize about journalistic projects and their impact, uphold editorial standards, and edit and coach journalists through pitching, reporting, writing, editing and production.
  • Enthusiasm for working collaboratively and creatively with journalists, coders, data scientists, operations/admin and external partners.
  • Excellent verbal and written interpersonal communication and diplomatic skills.
  • Ability to maintain empathy and rigor in fast-paced, remote/distributed work environments.
  • Ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds and perspectives.
  • Salary range: €70-80,000 depending on experience
  • 25 paid vacation days
  • Remote or hybrid work set up depending on location
  • MacBook or similar laptop
  • Support for conferences, trainings and other events
