The Action Center on Race and the Economy (ACRE) and ACRE Institute drive campaigns that seek to create a more racially and economically just society that values people over profit and supports the full inclusion and leadership of Black, brown, and poor people in our democracy and economy. Bargaining for the Common Good (BCG) is the organizing arm of ACRE and ACRE Institute.

The Senior Director of Healthcare Organizing will report to one of the two Co-Managing Directors of Campaigns and Organizing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build and help lead the BCG Healthcare Council, bringing together key community and labor leaders from the state and local levels who are fighting to transform the healthcare system using a Bargaining for the Common Good approach.
  • Develop and execute a sectoral common good strategy around healthcare, helping local BCG Tables develop issues into campaigns, identify strategic targets, and coordinate their work across geographies.
  • Help oversee the work of campaign directors and researchers who are responsible for working with partner organizations to build strong community-labor partnerships and run strategic corporate campaigns.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key healthcare leaders from community, labor, and philanthropic organizations. Help coordinate between organizers, researchers, and policy advocates. Help philanthropic partners understand strategic interventions for transforming the healthcare system.
  • Advise and assist the Co-Managing Directors of Campaigns and Organizing on organizational matters as a forward thinking member of the management team.

Qualifications:

  • A strong commitment to progressive social change and racial justice and a passion for ACRE/BCG’s vision and mission
  • At least 12 years of experience organizing for social change, including:
    • At least 5 years focused on strategic corporate campaigns
    • At least 3 years working in state and/or local community-labor partnerships aimed at winning common good demands
    • At least 3 years working in healthcare organizing
    • At least 3 years managing staff
  • Deep and demonstrated commitment to anti-racist practices and successful track record of establishing credibility and trust with a predominantly women of color staff
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in politically sensitive and high-pressure environments
  • Strong critical thinking skills
  • Effective time management skills, including prioritizing and managing multiple tasks, with minimal supervision
  • Willingness to work long and irregular hours and travel when needed
  • A good sense of humor

Location is flexible within the contiguous United States. This position will be jointly employed by ACRE (a 501(c)(4) organization) and ACRE Institute (a 501(c)(3) organization). This position is not a part of the bargaining unit of the ACRE Workers Union.
