COMPANY PROFILE

Code.org is an education innovation nonprofit dedicated to the vision that every student in every school has the opportunity to learn about artificial intelligence (AI) and computer science (CS) as part of their core K-12 education. We increase participation in AI+CS education by reaching students of all backgrounds where they are — at their skill level, in their schools, and in ways that inspire them to keep learning, with a focus on increasing participation by young women and students from other underrepresented groups. The leading provider of K-12 AI+CS education curriculum across the globe, Code.org also organizes the annual Hour of AI campaign, building on the legacy of the Hour of Code, which has engaged more than 15% of all students in the world!

A unifying approach in a divided world

Code.org's global role in the K-12 computer science movement is only possible because we use a unifying approach across diverse and often divided stakeholders. At a time of increasing polarization, the idea of increasing opportunity for students unites people from across the political spectrum. Code.org's team members, students, teachers, and supporters have diverse and diverging view points, and they are all welcome in our mission. Read more

JOB SUMMARY

Code.org is seeking a Curriculum Product Manager to lead the work of our 6-12 Curriculum team. In this role you will identify, define, and ship CS and AI curriculum products for middle and high school students, grades 6-12, leading and managing a team of content developers and collaborating cross-functionally. Code.org’s 6-12 curriculum products, including CS Principles, CS Discoveries, and AI Foundations, serve hundreds of thousands of students across the U.S. and around the globe each year. The product manager will build on the curriculum’s strengths while spearheading the development of new offerings addressing teacher demand, AI integration, and emerging pathways for high school students.

The ideal candidate will be a strong product manager with experience in the middle and high school CS and AI ed tech space, technical understanding of CS and AI concepts, and deep experience designing effective and engaging learning experiences for middle and high school students. Experience developing AI-focused products is highly valued.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

In this role you will:

  • With the support of the Director of Teaching and Learning, develop the strategy for Code.org’s 6-12 curriculum products. Define compelling, right-sized curriculum products to achieve that strategy and work towards organizational goals.
  • Manage the team of Code.org 6-12 curriculum content developers, mentoring them and supporting their growth. Create an inclusive, welcoming, and productive team culture and work environment.
  • Lead the team of curriculum content developers in building and launching products. Manage projects, creating roadmaps and milestones and allocating resources. Standardize workflows, development processes, and pedagogical approaches.
  • Set goals and metrics, develop evaluation plans, collect, analyze, and act on data from a variety of sources (pilots, surveys, focus groups, observations). Quantitatively and qualitatively monitor product adoption, usage, retention, and satisfaction and use this data to inform product strategy, features, and improvement.
  • Review and provide feedback on curriculum products in development and manage an external review process using subject matter experts and teacher reviewers.
  • Develop effective partnerships and working relationships within and outside of the organization. Collaborate with colleagues in software product management, design, engineering, marketing, data, and others. Communicate effectively with stakeholders, to leadership, and with development teams.
  • Maintain a deep understanding of what 6-12 students need to be engaged with and learn from CS and AI curriculum. Understand what districts, schools, and partners need from 6-12 curriculum to implement and promote it.
  • Actively represent Code.org values. Contribute to the Product and Engineering team and Code.org practices, rituals, and culture.

EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS

We seek candidates who have:

  • 4+ years of experience designing and developing 6-12 learning products (ideally CS and AI-focused), including for use at scale. Ideal candidates will have experience as a product manager in the 6-12 ed tech/curriculum provider space as well as curriculum development experience.
  • 2+ years of experience as a people manager, or equivalent experience acting as a regular mentor to members of a team or managing contractors.
  • Deep knowledge of CS and AI concepts relevant to, at a minimum, the 6-12 grade bands of the CSTA standards and the AI Literacy Framework. Fluency in at least one text-based programming language (e.g. Python or JavaScript) is required.
  • Direct experience teaching CS and/or AI, particularly in grades 6-12, preferred.
  • Deep and up-to-date understanding of curriculum development principles, ideally with an understanding of how to design effective 6-12 learning experiences in online and blended environments.
  • Experience using product, market, and customer data to make product decisions.
  • Strong project manager with experience leading, managing, and prioritizing multiple complex projects with multiple components and timelines, ideally with experience using project management tools.
  • Deep understanding of best practices to support equitable classroom environments, and experience with student-centered pedagogy.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • The ability to thrive and maintain flexibility in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience building and maintaining cross-functional and cross-org relationships.
  • Demonstrated growth mindset and ability to drive clarity through ambiguity.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate with significant independence and sound judgment in ambiguous or fast-changing environments
  • A bias for action - comfortable starting, iterating, and learning rather than waiting for perfect information
  • Intellectual curiosity about emerging trends in education, technology, and AI, with a track record of proactively staying ahead rather than waiting for direction
  • Comfort with risk-taking and a healthy relationship with failure as part of the learning process
  • Passion for CS and AI education and the Code.org mission.

In addition, candidates must:

  • Be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident
  • Work within the United States
  • Pass a pre-employment background check
  • Be willing to travel a minimum of two times per year for team events
