What the hiring manager says
“It is an incredibly exciting time to join the GSMA and work on our flagship event: MWC Barcelona. Now in its 20th year in Barcelona and with solid foundations, we’re expanding our new business development function to ensure that we continue along our growth path by engaging new vertical sectors & bringing them into the world’s leading B2B technology and connectivity event.
We’re approaching our busiest period for new interest in MWC, so it’s the perfect time to hit the ground running and identify new opportunities. We’re excited to welcome someone into the team that brings energy, enthusiasm and importantly learnings from previous roles to help shape this new direction and complement an exceptional team of Account Managers & Directors.”
Tom Chalcraft, Sales Director MWC Barcelona
About the Team
This role sits within the highly successful global sales team responsible for the long-term sustainable growth of MWC Barcelona, reporting to the New Business Development Director. We are 40+ salespeople working on a portfolio of highly successful exhibitions, conferences, media and intelligence platforms.
We benefit uniquely from access to the connections and relationships made by not only the rest of the sales team, but also the wider Association’s advocacy, technology and promotional work. GSMA’s influence within the connectivity industry is far reaching, providing you with a platform to source new clients for the Events business.
About the Role
This is a new business sales role requiring someone with excellent commercial awareness and a natural hunter style. MWC Barcelona has excellent retention of clients with unprecedented rebook rates. However, as we continue look to grow beyond the Telco industry, and with the opening of a large new Hall at Fira Gran Via, there is a need for a more targeted approach to new business longer-term. The successful candidate will use a variety of communication platforms & methods to source new business opportunities, uncover a need or gap and then be able to recommend and sell the right solution to help them. Whilst this role is a new business one – a consultative approach is vital.
This is not a cookie cutter sales role selling an off the shelf product – you need to be creative in your proposals and match client needs with our solutions. Deals can range from small exhibition stands, to complex, multi-product, high value packages. The target customer here may well not be familiar with the GSMA or MWC and so the successful candidate must be confident and credible when pitching to decision makers both over the phone and face to face.
