Data Visualization Specialist (Asia-based, Remote)


The Institute for Energy Economics and Financial Analysis (IEEFA) is seeking a Data Visualization Specialist to join our dynamic team in Asia to create high-quality, engaging, and interactive content that supports our research and communications work.


The Specialist will be a creative and analytical professional with strong design capabilities and a solid understanding of digital marketing and audience engagement. They will have a proven ability to translate complex technical and financial data into clear, visually compelling, and platform-optimized content that supports IEEFA’s research, communications, and impact. They will work closely with research analysts and communications professionals to ensure insights are presented in a clear, accessible, and impactful way across reports, presentations, media, and digital channels.


We are looking for a self-motivated multitasker who can work independently without continuous supervision. Working as part of a remote team in Asia, the ideal candidate will be expected to be able to communicate effectively with other members of the team over a variety of mediums (Zoom, G-suite, ClickUp, etc.), be comfortable with raising issues or questions along the way, and provide insights into your work.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Develop high-quality data visualizations, including charts, graphs, and infographics, optimized for reports, presentations, and digital platforms such as IEEFA’s website, newsletters, and social media channels
  • Collaborate with IEEFA analysts and communications team to identify key insights from research and turn them into clear, engaging visual stories
  • Format and visually enhance reports, presentations, and other organizational documents, ensuring consistency with brand and style guidelines
  • Manage the design, layout, and distribution of email newsletters using HubSpot and Canva with attention to audience engagement and performance
  • Optimize and enhance the Asia section of the IEEFA website by creating and updating reports and related content, and by developing engaging elements such as story scrolling, interactive visuals, and other user-focused features
  • Produce and edit short-form videos as needed to support digital storytelling
  • Update collaborative workflow platforms to keep track of project progress
  • Contribute to organizational impact reporting, including the creation of clear and compelling visuals that demonstrate reach, influence, and outcomes
  • Contribute to global and regional communications initiatives and projects as required
  • Maintain high standards of clarity, accessibility, and consistency across all visual materials
  • Commitment to IEEFA’s mission to accelerate the transition towards a sustainable, diverse, and profitable energy economy
  • Other duties as assigned


Required Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) in data visualization, graphic design, information design, data science, journalism, economics, or a related field
  • 4 to 7 years of demonstrated professional experience producing high-quality data visualizations for reports, digital platforms, or public-facing communications
  • A visual portfolio demonstrating experience in translating complex data into clear, compelling, and well-designed visualizations across a range of formats
  • Ability to explain visual design decisions clearly to non-design audiences
  • Strong understanding of project management, with the ability to work effectively under pressure and manage competing priorities and deadlines
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud is essential; experience with video production is strongly preferred
  • Experience in programming tools such as Python and Java, and design platforms including Flourish and Canva
  • Commitment to IEEFA’s mission to accelerate the transition to a diverse, sustainable, and profitable economy


Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong interest in current affairs, particularly in the energy and finance sectors
  • Experience working for a research organization or advocacy organization


Compensation and Benefits

Full-time 12-month fixed-term employment contract with the option of extension by mutual agreement and a market competitive remuneration. Pay rates are also based on education, skill, experience level, and internal equity.


Work Schedule

Full-time, 5 days/week with occasional evening or weekend work as required.


Travel

Some travel is required. All global team members attend IEEFA’s annual conference and regional team retreat.


Physical Demand and Work Environment

Must be able to work for prolonged periods at a computer. Computer work can involve repetitive motion, eyestrain, back, and neck strain.
