Director, Acquisitions (Development & Fundraising)

Stand Together
On-site
Arlington, VA

Stand Together is a philanthropic community that helps America’s boldest changemakers tackle the root causes of our country’s biggest problems, from education to the economy, broken communities, and toxic division, among dozens of other pressing issues. We provide our partners with access to resources including funding, thought leadership, a network of peers, and a playbook for applying proven principles to transform lives and society.

As Director, Acquisitions on our Development team, you will shape and lead our strategy to grow our donor-partner community and Stand Together. Your role will focus on developing the strategies, systems, and pathways for identifying and engaging philanthropists and business leaders who are aligned with Stand Together’s mission — and partnering with donor-facing colleagues to execute these strategies effectively.

You will build, own, and execute a cohesive acquisition framework: identifying new networks, mapping opportunities, designing approaches for outreach, and equipping donor-facing teams and Stand Together community members to engage prospective partners. Your work will lay the foundation for sustained partner growth, enabling Stand Together to magnify its impact nationwide.

How You Will Contribute
  • Strategy & Planning. Develop and lead a comprehensive acquisition strategy for major partners (philanthropists, business leaders), aligned with Stand Together’s mission and long-term goals. Identify and map high-potential individuals, organizations, and networks not currently engaged by Stand Together.  Establish clear acquisition targets, milestones, and success metrics, including the number of new partners who join the Stand Together community and engage as a Stand Together partner, growth in qualified prospects, network expansion, and other relevant indicators.

  • Network Building & Outreach Strategy. Design strategies and frameworks for expanding Stand Together’s reach into high-value networks, market segments, and affinity groups. Activate the Stand Together community by equipping staff, existing partners, and key stakeholders with tools, messaging, and plans to identify and refer prospective partners within their personal and professional networks. Develop strategic outreach campaigns, initiatives, and engagement pathways that donor-facing colleagues can execute with prospective partners.

  • Partnership Strategy Development. Work closely with donor-facing colleagues to shape compelling value propositions and engagement pathways tailored to different segments of prospective partners. Support donor-facing teams with insights, strategy, segmentation, materials, and discovery research that enable successful outreach, qualification, and onboarding.  Monitor and evaluate acquisition strategy performance and adapt based on learnings and results.

  • Collaboration & Cross-Functional Alignment. Collaborate with internal teams (communications, programs, operations, leadership) to ensure acquisition strategies are aligned with organizational priorities and impact goals. Provide insights and intelligence to inform broader fundraising, program design, and community engagement strategies.

  • Leadership & Performance Management. If applicable, lead and mentor acquisition/development staff or contractors, applying Principle Based Management to support growth, accountability, and ownership. Track progress, forecast outcomes, and adjust strategies as needed to meet or exceed acquisition goals.

What You Will Bring
  • Enthusiasm to contribute to Stand Together’s vision and principled approach to solving problems, and a commitment to stewarding our culture, which champions values including transformation and innovation, entrepreneurialism, humility, and respect.
  • Significant experience (minimum 7–10 years) in major-gifts fundraising, business development, partnership acquisition, or philanthropy — ideally with a track record of designing and executing strategies that fuel organizational growth.
  • Demonstrated ability to create scalable outreach and engagement strategies, build acquisition systems, and collaborate effectively with donor-facing teams.
  • Strong familiarity with donor segmentation, prospect research, campaign design, or network-based partner acquisition.
  • Exceptional communication, analytical, and strategic-thinking skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to build support and drive execution of complex initiatives in a highly cross functional environment and adapt plans in a dynamic environment.
  • Experience of developing strategies that resulted in significantly growing a customer base
