Position:                 Director, IT Technology Instructor Development 

Reports to:              Sr. Director,  Instructor Academy

Location:                National, with occasional travel to on-premises training locations

 

Summary 

The Director, IT Technology Instructor Development serves as a department lead within the IT Technology division of the IDQA team, responsible for overseeing the training, development, and quality assurance of instructional staff across all IT Technology courses. This role directly manages a Manager of Instructional Development & Delivery, ensuring effective onboarding, training delivery, and performance improvement initiatives for instructional staff.

The Director drives improvements in instructor performance through data-informed strategies, targeted interventions, and professional development programs. They ensure instructional staff are proficient in teaching methodologies, technical tools, and learner engagement strategies while maintaining alignment with organizational quality standards and programmatic goals.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Leadership and Team Management

  • Directly manage and mentor a Manager of Instructional Development & Delivery, providing guidance, support, and professional development opportunities to ensure their effectiveness in training instructional staff.
  • Establish a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the IT Technology instructional team.
  • Define team goals, monitor progress, and evaluate the performance of Managers of Instructional Training to ensure alignment with organizational objectives.

Instructor Development and Training

  • Oversee the execution of training programs led by Managers of Instructional Training, ensuring alignment with best practices and organizational goals.
  • Facilitate advanced training sessions for instructional staff, focusing on hands-on engagement strategies, technical competency, professional skills and effective instructional delivery.
  • Conduct classroom observations (in-person and remote) to assess instructional effectiveness, curriculum alignment, and adherence to quality standards, providing actionable feedback.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive guides, toolkits, and resources to support instructional staff in leveraging technical tools, labs, and hands-on learning strategies.
  • Collaborate with curriculum developers to ensure the integration of technical exercises and hands-on equipment use into instructional content.
  • Assess and validate the technical and instructional readiness of instructional staff, ensuring proficiency across IT disciplines such as IT Support, Cybersecurity, and related fields.

Operational Oversight and Compliance

  • Monitor and analyze instructor KPIs, including certification success rates, learner engagement, and graduation outcomes, and implement targeted interventions to address performance gaps.
  • Ensure instructional documentation, resources, and guides are accurate, up-to-date, and aligned with organizational goals.
  • Deliver Universal Basic Training (UBT) sessions to ensure new instructional staff are fully prepared for success, with a focus on technical and instructional readiness.

Collaboration and Alignment

  • Collaborate with the Product Development team, site leaders, and the Educational Technology team to align training initiatives with programmatic goals and learner outcomes.
  • Work with organizational stakeholders to identify systemic challenges, propose scalable solutions, and drive improvements in instructional success.
  • Foster strong cross-departmental communication to ensure consistency in instructional strategies and best practices.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree or 5+ years of experience in IT, Cybersecurity, or a related field required.
  • 8+ years of experience in instructor development, technical training, or educational leadership roles.
  • Proven expertise in managing teams, including direct supervision of mid-level managers.
  • Demonstrated success in implementing strategies to improve instructional performance and learner outcomes.

Skills:

  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and mentoring skills.
  • Strong technical proficiency in IT tools, labs, and learning technologies.
  • Ability to analyze performance metrics and develop data-informed strategies to drive improvements.
  • Strong organizational skills with experience managing large-scale training programs and operational workflows.

Required Professional Qualifications

  • CompTIA A+ 1200 series
  • CompTIA Security+

Preferred (Not Required) Qualifications

Industrial & Critical Infrastructure Exposure

  • Industrial literacy, including a baseline understanding of industrial environments and familiarity with the roles of technicians, electromechanics, or industrial coordinators.
  • Experience working in or supporting critical facilities, industrial systems, or lab-based technical environments.

AI & Technical Fluency

  • AI proficiency, including effective use of large language models (e.g., Gemini, ChatGPT) for research, synthesis, drafting, and workflow acceleration.

Industrial & Safety Certifications

  • Foundational industrial or safety certifications such as:
    • SACA (Smart Automation Certification Alliance) – Certified Industry 4.0 Associate (C-101 through C-104: Basic/Advanced Operations, Robotics, IIoT)
    • SACA Certified Industry 4.0 Specialist (Automation Systems, Electrical Systems, Mechanical Systems, or Instrumentation)
    • SMRP (Society for Maintenance & Reliability Professionals) – Certified Maintenance & Reliability Technician (CMRT)
    • NIMS (National Institute for Metalworking Skills) – Industrial Maintenance credentials (Electrical Systems, Basic Mechanical, or Hydraulics)
    • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 (General Industry) or NFPA 70E (Electrical Safety)

 

Candidates may demonstrate equivalent hands-on experience in lieu of formal certifications.

    For this position, our target salary is $85,000, with a range of $75,000 to $85,000. The variation in compensation typically hinges on factors such as the candidate's geographic location and their qualifications and experience that align with the role.
