FMI is seeking an experienced Director / Managing Director to expand the firm’s financial sponsors coverage strategy across its integrated platform. This senior role will be responsible for developing and managing relationships with private equity firms, driving revenue generation across FMI’s full suite of services, and serving as a key connector between sponsors and FMI’s investment banking and consulting capabilities.
The Director / Managing Director will play a leadership role in shaping FMI’s sponsor coverage approach, deepening market presence, and originating high-impact engagements across the built environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Help lead FMI’s financial sponsors coverage efforts, developing and executing a strategic plan to deepen relationships with private equity firms
- Originate and drive revenue opportunities across FMI’s full platform, including M&A advisory, due diligence, strategy, and operational consulting
- Serve as primary relationship manager for key sponsor accounts, building long-term, trusted partnerships
- Identify and develop opportunities with sponsor-backed portfolio companies across FMI’s sectors
- Collaborate with senior leaders across investment banking and consulting to position solutions to clients
- Provide market insight and thought leadership on private equity trends, sector dynamics, and investment themes
- Mentor and develop junior team members, supporting team growth and capability building
- Establish and refine internal processes for sponsor coverage, including coordination, tracking, and reporting
- Represent FMI at industry events, conferences, and sponsor meetings to enhance brand visibility
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required; MBA or advanced degree strongly preferred
- 10–15+ years of relevant experience in investment banking, private equity, consulting, or related advisory roles
- Proven track record of originating and executing business with financial sponsors
- Deep network within the private equity community, particularly in FMI’s core sectors
- Strong leadership capabilities with experience managing teams and cross-functional initiatives
- Exceptional communication, presentation, and relationship management skills
- Strategic thinker with strong commercial instincts and ability to identify growth opportunities
- Demonstrated ability to operate effectively in a collaborative, entrepreneurial environment
