What We Do

At Leading Educators (LE), we know that excellent teaching is the most important driver of student success. The moment a student steps foot in the classroom, their opportunity to learn depends on how prepared their teacher is to translate complex content knowledge, standards, and their knowledge of that student into lessons that help them learn deeply and apply their thinking to the real world.

That’s a big lift, and it often happens alone. As a national nonprofit, we partner with school systems to overcome persistent instructional challenges, foster intentional collaboration and adult learning by design, and ignite new possibilities through systemic solutions at the intersection of teaching, talent, and technology.

We work shoulder-to-shoulder with educators at every level of the education system to strengthen their instructional and leadership practices, bring a vision for excellent instruction to life with consistency, and ensure every student reaches their full potential.

Through direct support, strategic advising, innovation pilots, and best-in-class research, we help educators work toward a future where every student is ready to thrive. Learn more about our work at leadingeducators.org.

Internal & External Candidate Application Deadline: April 7, 2026

Position

Leading Educators is at the forefront of transforming literacy instruction through the strategic integration of high-quality instructional materials, artificial intelligence, and evidence-based coaching. As Director of AI-Enabled Instruction, ELA, you'll lead this next evolution—designing and implementing a coherent, scalable model that equips educators with the tools, knowledge, and support to teach ELA with precision and impact.

This is more than a project role. You'll guide the design and implementation of a Robin Hood Foundation-supported multi-school literacy initiative while simultaneously shaping LE's broader AI-enabled ELA strategy. Working alongside system leaders, teachers, coaches, and product teams, you'll co-create, pilot, and continuously refine instructional supports that preserve the rigor and intent of high-quality curriculum while unlocking the potential of AI technology.

You'll report to the Senior Director of AI-Enabled Instruction, ELA, and operate at the intersection of instruction, innovation, and systems change—where your expertise in ELA content, adult learning, and rapid iteration directly influences how thousands of students experience literacy instruction.

Do you have expertise in…

  • Designing and delivering content-specific professional learning that strengthens teacher practice and deepens instructional implementation?
  • Leading pilots and prototypes with clear learning questions, rigorous data collection, and evidence-driven design pivots?
  • Applying deep ELA pedagogical knowledge—including Science of Reading principles and standards-aligned instruction—to ensure curricular integrity and rigor?
  • Collaborating across cross-functional teams (instruction, technology, research, product, coaching) to align systems and drive coherence?

Do you enjoy…

  • Building educator capacity to internalize, adapt, and implement high-quality instructional materials with fidelity and flexibility?
  • Operating in dynamic, evolving contexts where you're designing new models and learning as you go?
  • Analyzing qualitative and quantitative data to surface patterns, inform strategy, and continuously improve instructional impact?
  • Partnering shoulder-to-shoulder with teachers, coaches, and system leaders to translate vision into classroom practice?

If you've answered affirmatively to these questions and meet the following prerequisites, we urge you to seize this opportunity. This role calls for the following:

  • A minimum of 8 years of combined experience in ELA instruction, coaching, and adult learning, including at least 5 years of ELA classroom teaching and at least 3 years of instructional leadership, coaching, or leading HQIM-aligned professional learning
  • Demonstrated expertise supporting teachers to internalize and adapt curriculum within high-quality instructional materials
  • Strong pedagogical and content knowledge in ELA, grounded in Science of Reading and Common Core-aligned instruction
  • Experience implementing HQIM in ELA; familiarity with HMH Into Literature is a plus
  • Technical fluency with AI platforms and the ability to interpret AI-generated insights to inform instructional design and professional learning
  • Ability to travel moderately for org retreats, programming, donor meetings, and professional development; remote work from a home office located anywhere within the U.S.
  • Authorization to work for any employer in the United States
  • A commitment to Leading Educators' mission and values: building on strengths, continuously learning, prioritizing people, and championing success for all

Travel Requirements

  • This is a remote position requires moderate  travel
    • National travel for org retreats, programming, job related travel, or professional development
  • Outside of the above mentioned travel, this person will work from a home office that must be located anywhere within the U.S.
