Siegel supports organizations whose work contributes to giving everyone the opportunity to learn and contribute to a rapidly changing society. We were founded in 2011 by David Siegel, Co-Founder and Co-Chairman of Two Sigma, a financial sciences company. We primarily focus on three interest areas: Learning, Work, and Infrastructure. Position Summary:
Reporting to the Director of External Engagement, the Associate will support our internal and external communications strategy. The role requires someone who can move fluidly between excellent execution (drafting content, coordinating events, managing systems) and strategic support (attending internal and external meetings to surface storytelling opportunities, conducting research to inform narrative strategy). The Associate will work across Siegel teams with various external stakeholders (grantees, field leaders, media) to align key messages, and identify areas of collaboration both within our internal team and external network.
This is an ideal role for someone early-to-mid career who has core skills in writing/editing, project management, and stakeholder coordination, ideally within the impact communications field, and a passion for nonprofit storytelling
Content:
- Write and edit content, including Insight posts, op-eds, press releases, website content, annual reports, speeches, talking points, and other materials that communicate Siegel’s activities and priorities to our target audiences
- Support the release strategy and dissemination schedule for all content
- Write content with a clear understanding of Siegel’s strategic objectives and organizational positions and a clear and accessible voice and tone in keeping with existing publications
- Build relationships with key Siegel stakeholders (Grantees, Fellows) to identify storytelling and collaboration opportunities. Provide communications support and guidance to grantees
- Provide research and communications support for the Chairman’s Office priorities and special projects as requested
Coordination:
- Support coordination of the organization’s presence at conferences, panels, and events, as well as of Siegel-hosted events. This includes: drafting panel proposals, sourcing relevant events, project managing event logistics, vendor coordination and invoice processing, scheduling, documenting organizational learnings, tracking expenses, and engaging in follow up activities.
- Attend cross-functional meetings (research, grantmaking, operations) to stay aligned with organizational priorities
- Assist in managing the external engagement and communication calendar, as well as internal communications workflows
- Track project deadlines, deliverables and budgets across multiple workstreams
- Update and maintain internal CRM and external email distribution lists
Strategy:
- Support the development and execution of Siegel’s External Engagement strategy, which includes strategic communications, narrative infrastructure, and field-building work
- Maintain strategy metrics, including records of media coverage, engagement metrics, and impact data
- Broadly, proactively seek opportunities to enhance the reputation of our brand and elevate the work of our grantees
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience working in communications, journalism, public relations, or related fields, or 3+ years at an agency and/or specialized client-facing role
- Excellent written communication, editing, and copywriting skills
- A writing portfolio that includes multiple forms of impact story-telling, including but not limited to: case studies, interviews, blog posts, original insights, research briefs, press releases, etc.
- Strong project management skills, including events management, with a proven ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
- Proven track record of collaborative work; experienced coordinating among internal departments and/or external partners
- Ability to summarize and draw unique insights from research and data - both qualitative and quantitative
- Proficient with productivity Office and Google suite, content management systems, and social media platforms
- A plus if you have:
- Experience in philanthropy, nonprofit sector, or issue advocacy
- Familiarly with tech policy, workforce development, education, or infrastructure
- Knowledge of desktop publishing software (InDesign, Photoshop, Canva)
- Experience in WordPress or web design
