About Anthropic

Anthropic’s mission is to create reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems. We want AI to be safe and beneficial for our users and for society as a whole. Our team is a quickly growing group of committed researchers, engineers, policy experts, and business leaders working together to build beneficial AI systems.

About the role

Anthropic is seeking an APAC Accounting Lead to build and run our regional Corporate Accounting function. This is the senior Controllership role for Asia Pacific, owning end-to-end accounting and finance operations for all APAC legal entities across Statutory Accounting and External Reporting, International Payroll, Procure to Pay, and regional Finance Systems. Reporting to the Head of International Accounting in Dublin, you will set the multi-year strategy for how we scale our financial control environment across the region, build and lead the team that delivers it, and act as the senior finance point of contact for APAC entity boards, external auditors, and outsourced service providers.

This is a rare opportunity to define how a frontier AI company runs Controllership across one of its fastest-growing regions, with a mandate to use Claude and AI tooling to reimagine how regional accounting work gets done. The successful candidate will be comfortable operating as a hands-on regional controller in the near term while designing the organisation, processes, and systems required to support a rapidly expanding entity footprint.

Responsibilities

Regional Controllership and Operations

    • Own the APAC Corporate Accounting function end to end and be accountable for the accuracy, timeliness, and control of all regional financial reporting
    • Own statutory financial statements, local audits, board reporting, and corporate secretarial filings for all APAC legal entities, acting as the primary relationship owner for external auditors
    • Be accountable for the APAC month-end close and consolidation into the global group, including journals, intercompany, reconciliations, and flux review
    • Own regional execution of the intercompany and transfer pricing operating model in partnership with global Tax
    • Own regional delivery of International Payroll and Procure to Pay in partnership with the global functional leads, and own the associated regional control framework
    • Own regional regulatory and statistical reporting obligations, acting as the regional finance point of contact for local statutory authorities in partnership with Legal and Compliance

Team Building and Leadership

    • Build, lead, and develop a high-performing regional accounting and finance operations team across multiple APAC locations
    • Define the regional organisation design and hiring plan as the entity footprint grows, and own the business case for incremental headcount
    • Manage the regional outsourced accounting, payroll, and Procure to Pay provider relationships, including the transition path between outsourced and in-house delivery

Systems, Controls, and AI

    • Partner with global Finance Systems on the regional deployment and continuous improvement of the core finance platform stack, owning regional requirements, data integrity, and user acceptance
    • Design and operate the regional internal control framework and prepare the region for future SOX and public-company readiness
    • Drive automation and the adoption of Claude and AI tooling across APAC accounting processes in a controlled, audit-ready manner

Strategic Partnership

    • Set the vision and multi-year roadmap for APAC accounting operations and partner with global Controllership and CAO leadership to align this with the global plan
    • Act as the senior APAC Controllership partner to regional General Managers, Country Managers, and functional leaders, and represent the function externally with Big 4 audit and advisory firms and regional finance networks
    • Partner with global Tax and Treasury on direct and indirect tax compliance (including GST and withholding taxes), regional cash management, funding, and capital repatriation
    • Lead accounting and finance operations readiness for new APAC entity launches, partnering with Legal, Tax, Treasury, People, and GTM

You may be a good fit if you

  • Have 15+ years of progressive accounting and controllership experience, including 5+ years as a regional or group controller in a US-headquartered or global multinational
  • Are a qualified accountant (CPA, CA, ACCA, or equivalent) with a bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or equivalent practical experience
  • Have a demonstrated track record of building and leading multi-country accounting teams, including hiring, developing, and managing managers
  • Have owned statutory accounting and external audit at a regional or group level, plus at least one of international payroll, procure to pay, or finance systems
  • Possess deep knowledge of US GAAP and IFRS and working knowledge of local statutory and regulatory frameworks across multiple APAC jurisdictions
  • Are experienced in designing and operating month-end close, consolidation, intercompany, and balance sheet reconciliation processes at scale
  • Are proficient in enterprise ERP and finance systems (for example NetSuite, Workday Financials, SAP, Oracle), with experience driving regional implementations
  • Communicate with clarity and credibility to senior leadership, audit committees, and local boards, and are comfortable representing Controllership externally
  • Operate with high ownership and sound judgement in ambiguous, fast-scaling environments, moving between strategic planning and hands-on execution as required

Strong candidates may also

  • Have built a regional accounting or shared services function from an early stage at a high-growth technology company
  • Have experience standing up new legal entities and bringing them to operational and reporting readiness across multiple APAC markets
  • Have led or materially contributed to IPO readiness, SOX implementation, or internal controls transformation programmes
  • Bring experience with international payroll and equity compensation in APAC
  • Have led ERP or finance systems implementations as the regional business owner
  • Have an established Big 4 or advisory network in the region
  • Show passion for Anthropic’s mission and enthusiasm for using AI tools to drive automation and process improvement

How we're different

We believe that the highest-impact AI research will be big science. At Anthropic we work as a single cohesive team on just a few large-scale research efforts. And we value impact — advancing our long-term goals of steerable, trustworthy AI — rather than work on smaller and more specific puzzles. We view AI research as an empirical science, which has as much in common with physics and biology as with traditional efforts in computer science. We're an extremely collaborative group, and we host frequent research discussions to ensure that we are pursuing the highest-impact work at any given time. As such, we greatly value communication skills.

The easiest way to understand our research directions is to read our recent research. This research continues many of the directions our team worked on prior to Anthropic, including: GPT-3, Circuit-Based Interpretability, Multimodal Neurons, Scaling Laws, AI & Compute, Concrete Problems in AI Safety, and Learning from Human Preferences.
