The Wellcome Trust is a global charitable foundation. We improve health for everyone by funding science, leading policy and advocacy campaigns, and building partnerships.
We plan to spend £16bn over the next ten years, funding new discoveries in life, health, and wellbeing, and taking on three global health challenges: mental health, infectious disease and climate and health.
These challenges need the bold science we support, but they won’t be solved by science alone.
We are looking for an Investment Manager to join our Investment team.
You will be working within the Investment team reporting to one of the Principal’s in the team.
Wellcome’s Investment portfolio of approximately £40 billion is diversified across asset classes and geographies with an objective of generating returns to fund the charitable mission and at least preserve the endowment in real terms long-term. The role is focused primarily on wholly owned asset-backed businesses and private equity co-investments.
Wellcome is working with Forrester Partners (Privacy Policy - Forrester Partners) for this search.

Where in Wellcome will I be working?
You will be working with the Portfolio Management reporting to one of the Principal’s in the team. Wellcome’s Investment portfolio is diversified across asset classes and geographies with an objective of generating returns to fund the charitable mission and at least preserve the endowment’s value in real terms long-term.
What will I be doing?
In this role, you’ll contribute to the Investments Team’s objectives by overseeing existing holdings, assessing and recommending new opportunities, and applying rigorous quantitative and qualitative analysis to support portfolio decisions. You’ll play a key part in managing wholly‑owned asset‑backed businesses and private equity co‑investments, bringing market insight and sound judgement to help shape Wellcome’s investment strategy.
As an Investment Manager in the Investment Division, you will:
Identify, research and evaluate investment opportunities across real assets and at the broader portfolio level, carrying out both quantitative and qualitative due diligence to inform decisions.
Manage and monitor existing investments, reviewing strategy, performance and outlook, assessing ESG considerations, and ensuring effective governance and value creation.
Provide clear, evidence based recommendations to the team, drawing on sound investment judgement and high-quality analysis to support portfolio outcomes.
Oversee accurate documentation and due‑diligence materials and negotiate commercial terms that align with Wellcome’s objectives.
Build and maintain strong stakeholder relationships, representing Wellcome professionally in the investment market and engaging with management teams, external managers, advisers and consultants.
Contribute to an inclusive, well‑governed and cost‑effective operation, managing risks and budgets responsibly, collaborating across teams, and working in line with Wellcome policies and principles.
Is this job for me?
If you have a strong grounding in investment management – ideally supported by a relevant qualification – and bring significant experience in real estate, real assets, corporate finance or banking, this role could be a great fit. It’s well‑suited to someone who enjoys stewarding existing investments to maximise long-term returns, analysing opportunities, navigating both qualitative and quantitative risks, and collaborating with a wide range of stakeholders. You’ll thrive here if you’re curious, detail‑oriented and driven to learn, while also bringing humility, positive energy and a genuine commitment to supporting your team.
