Project Background
The project - Hands of Transition is a first-of-its-kind communicators network focused on transforming narratives and sparking action around India’s food and energy systems. It brings together communicators, artists, cultural voices, industry leaders, farming and agricultural communities, grassroots groups, and policymakers to accelerate insight-driven climate action across India’s food systems. Envisioned as a co-created and co-owned network, it seeks to build a shared agenda, rapid response capacity, and a long-term movement for climate-smart transitions, with communities at the center as both messengers and drivers of change.
The campaigner would support the network for the sub-national work.
In terms of responsibilities, the person in this role will support on-ground execution for the project. This may include:
- Coordinating with project partners for day to day activities. This would include ideating & facilitating meetings & workshops, ensuring smooth coordination between multiple partners & monitoring progress.
- Brainstorm and ideate project campaign plans basis insights from the field, partner conversations and wider ecosystem.
- Planning and delivering on-ground and online events, which could include but not limited to community meetings; co-creation workshops; installations; and expert panel discussions.
- Lead and expand Hands of Transition through its sub national/ state identity in Maharashtra
- Introduce, set up meetings and forge strong connections and opportunities for yourself and the team with local organisations and individuals that could be relevant to campaign activities, including civil society groups, think tanks, citizen groups and environmental organisations.
- Identify and participate in platforms and events (local or digital) where the network can participate and represent their goals, progress and asks. Identify potential avenues for collaboration.
- Engagement with government stakeholders - This includes securing meetings with decision makers, coordinating with project partners for meetings, preparing material/collaterals required for such interactions, presenting the work along with the partners, developing text and translation support as required, capturing minutes from meetings and sharing back.
- Ensure real-time social listening pertaining to issues such as food systems and energy. This includes surfacing news and context on Maharashtra and any key events and developments in the ecosystem, policy space.
- Ability to present work in large and small scale meetings - from community meetings to government meetings
- Broker new partnerships in the state of Maharashtra - leverage cultural insights, art and culture, trends, media and digital media, academic institutions, other campaigns, energy and food sector players across private and public sector [SHGs, brands, suppliers, etc] to broker new partnerships and collaborations for the campaign.
- Able to support in PR, digital, media and other mix medium creative storytelling for the campaign, including ideation for campaign activation and executing those
- Keeping strong and regular channels of communication open with the Purpose team at all times. This will include calls with the internal team & with partners & updates via Slack/email.
- Maintain and record ongoing activities and share back with the team (photos/videos/other important data that may be useful from a reporting standpoint). Draft shareback plans from Maharashtra, ability to synthesise learnings, insights and opportunities.This will include working closely with the Impact, Monitoring and learning lead on the project to document accurately.
Qualifications:
- 3-5 years of experience working with grassroot communities and organizations.
- Knowledge of and interest in expanding work on food systems and energy transitions; prior experience in these sectors is an advantage
- Demonstrated experience working in complex environments and projects that have internal and external facing roles, involving multiple partners - such as, government bodies, grassroot partners, private sector players, media, etc
- Based in Maharashtra (open to candidates from any city, town, or village); preference for Nashik, Nagpur, or Pune
- Language Requirements
- Marathi (reading, writing, and speaking) — mandatory
- English — fluent
- Hindi — working proficiency preferred
Details
This is a contract based role. Contract Duration: February 2026 - July 2026, 2-3 days/week. Availability on some weekends might be required basis workshops or events.
