Manager, College Success

Road to Hire is seeking exceptional mission-aligned talent to join its team, as it pivots to a new chapter to position itself for new heights of success and organizational excellence. The Manager, College Success leads a coaching team dedicated to driving academic persistence, degree completion, and career outcomes for scholarship-supported students. This role blends people leadership, student impact, data-driven strategy, and operational management to ensure students graduate on time and transition successfully into internships and full-time employment.

The Manager maintains a small caseload to model strong advising practice while building systems that scale impact across the full student population.

Reports To: VP, Student Success

Location: Hybrid; residence in the Charlotte region required with in-office presence Tuesday–Thursday. Occasional evenings and weekends required to support student success efforts.

Compensation: $70,000 with full benefits

Key Responsibilities

1. Lead and Develop the College Success Coaching Team

  • Manage, coach, and evaluate Student Success Coaches to ensure consistent, high-quality advising practices.
  • Establish clear performance expectations and measurable outcomes tied to credit attainment, persistence, GPA, internship placement, and job attainment.
  • Provide case consultation and escalation support for complex student situations impacting academic standing or employment readiness.
  • Build a culture of accountability, reflective practice, and continuous improvement grounded in student outcomes.
  • Develop professional development plans aligned to team strengths and performance gaps.
  • Partner with peer Managers, College Success to coordinate direction for the coaching team.

2. Drive Student Academic Progress and Career Outcomes

  • Ensure students meet term-to-term credit completion benchmarks and remain in good academic standing.
  • Oversee coaching strategies that support internship placement, experiential learning, and full-time job attainment.
  • Maintain a direct caseload of 20–30 students to model best practices and remain closely connected to student experience.
  • Build and maintain relationships with institutional partners and campus resources to remove barriers to persistence and completion.
  • Monitor academic and career milestones to ensure on-time degree progression.

3. Design and Deliver Programming that Advances Academic and Career Milestones

  • Lead the development and execution of programming aligned to academic progression and career readiness.
  • Oversee workshops, cohort sessions, and summer experiences that support:
    • Credit completion
    • Major progression
    • Internship preparation
    • Job readiness
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to align academic support, career preparation, and workforce pathways into a cohesive student journey.
  • Evaluate program participation and outcomes to continuously strengthen engagement and milestone completion.
  • Partner with peer Managers, College Success to design and deliver outcomes consistently across the college experience.

4. Build Systems and Cadences for Data-Informed Decision Making

  • Establish consistent review cadences, including team meetings, case reviews, and milestone checks.
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs), including:
    • Student engagement
    • Credit accumulation
    • GPA
    • Persistence rates
    • Internship attainment
    • Employment outcomes
  • Analyze trends to identify risk indicators and implement timely interventions at individual and cohort levels.
  • Ensure accurate advising documentation and data integrity.
  • Communicate performance trends, risks, and recommendations to leadership to inform strategic decision-making.

5. Manage Program Operations and Accountability

  • Oversee program operations, reporting, and budget tracking to ensure effective and compliant delivery.
  • Align workflows and communication processes across departments to ensure coordinated student support.
  • Ensure adherence to organizational standards while driving measurable progress toward degree completion and employment outcomes.
  • Support scaling strategies to meet annual graduate targets.

 

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's a plus
  • Minimum 5+ years of experience in student services, education, or related field
  • Minimum 3+ years of people leadership experience with direct report management
  • Proven track record of developing and implementing successful programs
  • Experience with college access or retention programs
  • Strong analytical skills with experience in data collection and reporting
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience working with diverse student populations
  • Proficiency in budget management and financial planning
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with strategic planning, organizational change, or scaling nonprofit programming.
  • Familiarity with frameworks such as Intrusive Advising, Appreciative Advising, and Holistic Student Support.
  • Background in managing cross-sector student success initiatives (e.g., FAFSA completion, summer melt, dual enrollment).
  • Expertise in federal and state financial aid policy, college access pipelines, and institutional accountability.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment
