We are looking for a Programme Manager to join our Strategy Department, working across Wellcome’s Infectious Disease, Climate and Health and Mental Health Solutions Programmes.

Where in Wellcome will I be working?

The role will benefit from working across the Solutions Programmes based on strategic priorities and need. Therefore, while the role is allocated to a specific Solutions Programme (either Infectious Disease, Climate and Health or Mental Health), they will report to the relevant Head of Strategy Integration for that period of time. As a member of the Strategy Integration team, you will be enhancing programme and project management quality and capability at Wellcome while supporting the delivery of strategic initiatives across the Solutions Programmes.

From an ongoing administrative perspective, the role will report to the Head of Organisational Planning within the Strategy Department.

What will I be doing?

This role will ensure efficient and effective programme management by supporting programme leads in developing strategies with plans to delivering them, driving integration across the whole organisation and fostering an environment conducive to successful delivery and continuous improvement.

As a Programme Manager, you will:

  • Collaborate with programme leads to develop and maintain plans to achieve influence, engagement or research goals and outcomes.

  • Ensure effective integration of influence, engagement or research programmes into the overall portfolio, promoting collaboration and prioritisation within teams.

  • Facilitate team sessions, including retrospectives, planning meetings and project kick-offs, to enhance team collaboration.

  • Remove obstacles to teamwork, provide necessary resources and manage programme-level milestones in collaboration with work stream leads.

  • Oversee budget management and people planning, including allocating resources from across Wellcome.

  • Track and manage key risks, escalate them if necessary and ensure their resolution, alongside coordinating internal communication and supporting programme decision-making processes.

Minimum Criteria:

  • Comprehensive programme management experience including managing complex programmes.

  • Experience with coordinating competing priorities and multiple stakeholders and able to influence directly and indirectly in a matrix organisation.

  • Experienced in planning and problem solving with programme management and delivery teams.

  • Ability to actively engage with an organisation’s strategy and support the development and implementation of the relevant portfolio to deliver strategic objectives.
