Salary: (Grade 4) GBP £54,920 gross per annum - Due to its commitment to maintain equity and fairness, C40 operates on a spot salary model. This means that our employees are paid the same salary according to their grade and location.

Department Description:

The C40 Communications team is responsible for strategically positioning C40 as one of the world’s most impactful climate organisations by celebrating the ambitious, equitable action underway in C40 cities and establishing our mayors as global leaders of the climate movement. Through our global communications we aim to shift the narrative and inspire real progress on the greatest challenge humanity is facing today.

Position Description:

This role will be at the heart of C40’s communications team. The role will support the Director to undertake various exciting activities including co-leading on strategic communications, media and partnerships creating and executing communications activities, ensuring the delivery of key communications projects with other C40 teams and providing specific support to the Co-Chair’s communications.

The post holder will co-lead and undertake strategic communications activities and lead on special projects related to strategic communications work which advance climate change action all around the world.

Responsibilities:

Strategic Communications

• Support the delivery of strategic communications plans for key organisational priorities and milestones, including drafting first versions of communications plans under the direction of the Director of Strategic Communications, Media and Partnerships. Coordinate the implementation of communications plans, tracking deliverables, timelines, dependencies and progress to ensure timely and effective execution.
• Monitor the delivery and impact of communications activities, identifying opportunities to strengthen execution and improve outcomes.
• Support the delivery of strategic communications for the Breathe Cities programme, working under the guidance of the team Director.
• Support the Director in the coordination, management and growth of the Communications Network, helping to maintain strong relationships with members and ensure ongoing engagement.
• Support the planning and delivery of network convenings, including but not limited to project coordination, agenda development, coordinating presentations, logistics and speaker briefings.
• Coordinate follow-up activities after network convenings, including tracking actions, sharing resources and maintaining member engagement.
• Maintain network records, contact lists and engagement trackers, ensuring accurate information and effective relationship management.
• Support broader communications planning and cross-team coordination, helping ensure alignment across organisational priorities.
• Draft and edit communications content e.g. key messages, press releases, statements, emails.
• And any other duties appropriate for the grade.

Co-Chair Communications

• Support the Director in integrating Co-Chair communications workplans, priorities and objectives into the organisation's wider milestone communications planning and strategy.
• Maintain forward planning and coordination for Co-Chair communications activities, ensuring visibility of upcoming engagements, global events, announcements and communications opportunities.

Project Management

• Lead and maintain the administrative systems, workflows and processes that support the Strategic Communications, Media and Partnerships team.
• Coordinate project plans, meeting schedules, action trackers and reporting for team projects to ensure effective delivery across multiple workstreams.
• Attend key internal and external meetings, providing coordination support to the Director of Strategic Communications, Media and Partnerships, including documenting decisions, tracking follow-up actions and monitoring delivery against agreed commitments.
• Build and maintain strong working relationships with internal teams and external partners to facilitate effective collaboration and delivery of communications objectives.
• And any other duties appropriate for the grade

Person Specification:

The post holder will be experienced in project management and have a background in communications, including:

• Strong experience in communications and project management.
• Experience drafting key messages, press releases and other communications materials.
• Experience managing a wide range of projects, navigating complex stakeholder relationships/ high profile stakeholders.
• Experience in a range of topics and ability to learn and dive deep into new topics quickly.
• Excellent organisational skills and detail-oriented.
• Delivery-oriented, with problem-solving and strategic thinking capabilities and attention to detail.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
• Demonstrated ability working with diverse cultures from around the world.
• Interested in a long-term career in working internationally on climate change in a global organisation.
• Strong English language skills.
• Ability to speak other languages is desirable.

Other Requirements:

Applicants must already have the right to work in the UK. Moderate travel will be required as part of the role.
