About OCCRP

OCCRP is one of the largest investigative journalism organizations in the world, headquartered in Amsterdam and with staff across six continents. We are a mission-driven nonprofit newsroom that partners with other media outlets to publish stories that lead to real-world action. At the same time, our media development arm helps investigative outlets around the world succeed and serve the public.

Our mission is to spread and strengthen investigative journalism around the world and expose crime and corruption so the public can hold power to account. Our work has four main pillars:

  • Investigations - we lead collaborative cross-border projects and publish hard-hitting stories;
  • Infrastructure - we provide training, tools, and resources so investigative outlets can thrive;
  • Innovation - we develop new technology and solutions that serve the field of journalism; and
  • Impact - we accelerate the fight against global crime and corruption with groundbreaking partnerships.

Position overview

A 5-month, full-time role (November 2025 - March 2026), fostering collaboration between investigative journalists and academic researchers to utilize data in the investigation and analysis of corruption and illicit finance.

Job description

Investigative journalists and academic researchers both use data to interrogate the topics of corruption and illicit finance. While they bring complementary skills and perspectives, they have not traditionally worked together.

Together with the Anti-Corruption Data Collective (ACDC), OCCRP is launching an ambitious short-term project to accelerate collaboration between these two groups.  Our goal is to lower the barriers to collaboration and make it easier for researchers and journalists to generate data-backed evidence on corruption, kleptocracy and illicit financial flows. If structured well, these projects can benefit both groups as well as the wider anti-corruption field.

To advance this aim, OCCRP is hiring for a mid-career, full-time position for the period of November 2025 through March 2026. While full-time is strongly preferred, candidates only available 3-4 days per week are welcome to apply.

The individual will be a member of two OCCRP teams: Impact and Research & Data.

The role is remote and location is flexible, assuming some overlap with the Central European timezone.

ACDC is also hiring for a similar role, with a greater emphasis on academic research. Please indicate in your application if you wish to be considered for both roles.

Primary tasks will include:

  • Inventory data sets held by OCCRP and partner organizations, and assess the kinds of processing, analysis and expertise needed to unlock their further usefulness for journalists and researchers;
  • Secure and coordinate inputs from expert researchers to several OCCRP data and investigative projects;
  • Develop guidance materials for journalists and researchers on best practices for cooperation;
  • Proactively build the network of potential collaborators in both journalism and academia through targeted networking, outreach and presentations;
  • Contributing to the data journalism of OCCRP and other relevant projects as assigned.

This role sits at the intersection of several fields, so we welcome applicants with journalism, research, data, and/or other relevant backgrounds. Useful expertise and experience would include:

  • 7+ years of relevant experience, including data journalism, quantitative research, or other data-intensive work;
  • Understanding of corruption, illicit finance and related challenges;
  • Some familiarity with investigative journalism and academic research, and their respective approaches;
  • Excellent coordination and communication skills, with experience setting up and conducting collaborative international projects;
  • Strong English-language writing skills.

This position is subject to confirmation of funding.
