Job Description

As a Staff Software Engineer, you will be a key technical leader and role model within the team. We are looking for someone who designs and develops technology to serve business and technology objectives, aligns points of view across teams and makes smart trade offs to help achieve the goals of individual teams as well as LinkedIn's broader goals. This leader will foster LinkedIn's culture and values around transformation, collaboration and results. We are looking for engineers with deep expertise not just in building scalable APIs and services, but also in designing and managing high-throughput, data-intensive systems.

EP Foundations (Enterprise Platform Foundations) is the core platform powering every paid product at LinkedIn. As part of the broader Enterprise Platform (EP) organisation, the team provides foundational capabilities used across LinkedIn's enterprise businesses and products.

The Enterprise Platform organisation delivers common services across three key areas:

User & License Management through Admin Center and Account Center (EP Foundations)

Digital Goods Management

Enterprise Identity & Access Management

EP Foundations owns the lifecycle of enterprise entities, including accounts, licenses, profiles, roles, seats, groups, and application instances. Every enterprise product at LinkedIn relies on these capabilities. The team is both a platform and product engineering organisation, responsible for the backend systems that power Admin Center while managing some of LinkedIn's most critical enterprise data stores and services.

From a technical scale perspective, the team operates:

Over 200 APIs that support enterprise products and workflows across 50+ code repositories and one Ring 1 service.

More than 150 data tables storing 90+ TB of critical enterprise data across Espresso, MySQL, Pinot, Couchbase.

Systems that handle 500K+ peak requests per second.

Hosted search infrastructure powering enterprise search experiences.

More than 160 nearline and offline processing jobs that support not only Enterprise Platform teams but also multiple product organisations across LinkedIn.

Preferred experience includes

Proven experience in building and maintaining large-scale distributed systems involving high-volume data processing.

Strong hands-on knowledge of relational and NoSQL databases, with a focus on data modeling, performance tuning, and operational reliability.

Experience with real-time data streaming frameworks (e.g., Kafka, Apache Flink, Apache Beam etc.) and event-driven architectures.

Deep understanding of system bottlenecks, data consistency trade-offs, and techniques for ensuring data integrity at scale.

The work location of this role is hybrid, meaning it will be performed both from home and from a LinkedIn office on select days, as determined by the business needs of the team.

Responsibilities

Scale distributed applications, make architectural trade-offs applying synchronous and asynchronous design patterns, write code, and deliver with speediness and quality.

Produce high-quality software that is unit tested, code reviewed and checked in regularly for continuous integration.

You will be a role model and professional coach for engineers with a strong bias for action and focus on craftsmanship.

Identify, leverage, and successfully evangelize opportunities and collaborate with cross functional teams to design and build scalable platforms/products/services/tools and to improve engineering productivity in the organization.

Work with peers across teams to support and leverage a shared technical stack.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

BS Degree in Computer Science or related technical discipline or related practical experience.

11+ years experience in software design, development, and algorithm related solutions.

11+ years experience programming experience in Java and/or or any Object oriented language

Preferred Qualifications

BS 10+ years of relevant work experience, MS 9+ years of relevant work experience, or PhD 7+ years of relevant work experience.

Experience in designing and building infrastructure and web services at large scale & strong object oriented skills.

Expert knowledge of computer science, with strong competencies in data structures, algorithms, and software design.

Experience with object oriented design, coding, testing patterns, and programming languages (Java, C++ etc.).
