IsraAID is an international non-governmental humanitarian aid organisation founded in 2001. Since then, our teams have worked in more than 60 countries worldwide, responding to emergencies and supporting communities to rebuild their lives and futures. From hurricanes to refugee crises to global pandemics, IsraAID mobilises quickly and collaborates deeply with communities, accompanying them from response to recovery to long-term resilience. IsraAID has been operating in South Sudan since 2011, with current projects in Juba and Terekeka counties in Central Equatoria State and in Renk County in Upper Nile State. Our programs focus on Education, Protection, Health & Nutrition, and WASH Sectors.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The primary responsibility of the Communications Officer is to increase IsraAID South Sudan visibility and raise awareness of the humanitarian situation and our humanitarian work in South Sudan. This position is responsible for in-country media relations, building links with media outlets and responding to media queries, content creation and publicity, management of official social media platforms and donor and program support, ensuring that the project results are highlighted. The Communications Officer will contribute to these efforts by serving as the lead of the Communications Unit with the support of the Programs team and oversight of the Country Director.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Communications Strategy & Planning
- In coordination with the Country Director and the headquarters communication focal points, develop and implement a communication strategy to advance advocacy and awareness of IsraAID programming in South Sudan.
- Lead the systemic roll out the communication strategy to ensure impact and visibility,
- Contribute to strategic messaging aligned with organizational priorities and donor visibility requirements.
- Ensure the timely production of communication products and materials to support the country communication strategy, regional and global campaigns, priorities, and resource mobilization as outlined in the work plan
- Work closely with the supervisor on content development and management.

Content Gathering, Development & Storytelling
- Identify and gather compelling success stories, human-interest features, and news angles to support website, social media, donor reporting, and media relations efforts.
- Conduct interviews with program staff and participants to generate high-quality content for external communications.
- Draft communication materials, statements, press releases, fact sheets, and briefing notes to support IsraAID South Sudan programming.
- Ensure all communication materials are accurate, ethical, and aligned with safeguarding and branding standards.

Media Relations & Spokesperson Support
- Provide effective and timely professional assistance in developing, drafting, and maintaining contact information, materials, and relationships with journalists and media outlets across all media – print, TV, radio, web – in the country to communicate IsraAID's cooperation to a wider audience.
- Coordinate closely with HQ media teams and serve as the on-the-ground point of contact for media inquiries, interviews, and site visits.
- Prepare and brief South Sudan-based staff for media interviews and public engagements.

Coordination & Advisory Support
- Provide communication guidance to country office staff on visibility, branding, messaging, and media engagement, based on HQ guidelines and protocols.
- Coordinate with program teams to ensure communication efforts accurately reflect program impact and technical content.
- Facilitate media activities such as project site visits, photo coverage, TV footage, and utilization of both web-based and traditional media.
- Monitor and evaluate the use and effectiveness of media materials. Maintain a library of coverage (clippings, coverage).

Other Duties
- Perform other communications-related duties as assigned to support the effective implementation and visibility of IsraAID’s programming.
- Assist in drafting and editing articles, press releases, human interest stories, and other advocacy/information materials for both web-based and traditional media.
- Maintain an up-to-date documentation centre for communication materials, including publications, press releases and clippings, photographs, audio-visual materials, web resources, etc.
- Recommend appropriate information and communication materials for use in media and other advocacy and communication activities.
- Recommend established contacts, networks, resources, and processes to support communication activities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, liberal studies, public relations, or related area.
- Minimum three years of practical professional work experience in communication, print and broadcast media, or interactive digital media. Experience in a humanitarian context is an asset.
- Background or familiarity with communication in emergency situations in emergency-related areas is required.
- Fluency in English is desirable, and Arabic is an added advantage
- Proven skills in the development and implementation of communication/media products, including solid writing skills.
- Strong knowledge of social media use and tools.
- Excellent interpersonal and networking skills
- Ability to develop messaging and positioning for local and international audience.
- Strong written and oral communication skills with ability to elicit and communicate success stories.
- Ability to transform technical information into understandable form for comprehension by different target audiences.
- Knowledge and strong commitment to the humanitarian principles.
- Flexibility and adaptability to changes in work environment.
- A team player with the ability to cope with stressful workload.
- Essential computer literacy (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, print layout tools and use of internet features to develop required materials).

- Ability to travel, work and stay in remote areas with minimum facilities in a rapidly changing environment.
